The CX series digital pianos extend Kawai’s award-winning line-up of home instruments, combining authentic touch and expressive piano sound within a stylish, yet highly affordable package.
Featuring 88 grade-weighted keys, the CX202 keyboard responds like a real acoustic piano, while its rich concert grand tones encourage players to develop their musical skills. The instrument also includes Bluetooth MIDI and Audio connectivity, built-in lesson pieces, and a convenient song recorder, making the CX202 an ideal choice for beginners taking their first steps, or more experienced players considering a second piano for silent practice with headphones.
The CX202’s Responsive Hammer Compact II (RHCII) keyboard action has been developed to represent the distinctive touch of an acoustic grand piano. Based on the highly-regarded RH keyboard action design, its spring-less mechanism and sturdy construction delivers consistent upward and downward motion, while improved cushioning material helps to reduce keyboard noise, resulting in a smooth, natural, and highly authentic piano playing experience.

Just as acoustic pianos utilise heavier bass hammers and lighter treble hammers, the RHCII keyboard action also employs different hammer weights, appropriately graded for each playing range.
Such details provide greater stability during fortissimo passages, while preserving delicate pianissimo control, to satisfy the demands of even the most discerning pianist.
The Responsive Hammer Compact II keyboard action utilises an accurate triple-sensor key detection system for enhanced playing realism.
The added third sensor improves responsiveness when playing the same key repeatedly, and unlike conventional two sensor keyboard actions found in many digital pianos, allows the sound of a single note to be gradually ‘layered’ without the previous tone being lost.
Kawai’s action technology also monitors the speed at which each key is lifted, influencing the release character of piano sounds, and providing a greater range of expression between staccato and legato playing.
Earning a reputation as the ‘premier pianos of Japan’, Shigeru Kawai instruments grace the stages of concert halls and musical institutions throughout the world, and are prized for their outstanding tonal clarity and exceptional dynamic range.
The CX202 reproduces the magnificent tone of the flagship Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand piano. This peerless instrument is hand-built by dedicated craftsmen at the Shigeru Kawai R&D Laboratory in Ryuyo, Japan, and widely regarded as one of the finest instruments in its class.
The CX202 digital piano brings the rich, resonant sound of the acclaimed Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand piano to an accessible, highly affordable instrument.
Utilising Kawai’s advanced Harmonic Imaging technology, the CX202 reproduces the tonal depth and warmth of the original acoustic piano, delivering smooth, expressive variations in volume and character from delicate pianissimo to thunderous fortissimo.
Utilising Kawai’s Harmonic Imaging technology, the CX202 reproduces the tonal depth and warmth of the original acoustic piano, delivering smooth, expressive variations in volume and character from delicate pianissimo to thunderous fortissimo.
The CX202’s powerful digital effects engine further enhances the instrument’s core sounds, applying additional reverberation effects that simulate the acoustic environment of a recital room, live stage, or concert hall, bringing performances to life.
The result is a rich, vibrant piano tone that delivers breathtaking realism and authenticity.
The CX202’s stereo speaker system delivers an impressive 40W of output, providing more than enough power to fill a medium-sized room with it's beautiful Shigeru Kawai grand piano sounds.
Moreover, when playing through speakers at a reduced volume setting (so as not to disturb family members), the CX202’s Low Volume Balance feature intelligently adjusts keyboard touch and piano tone characteristics, allowing pianissimo passages to be played smoothly and more naturally.
The CX202 also offers a wide range of useful digital features to support learning and creativity, complementing its authentic keyboard touch and inspiring piano sound.
Players can explore different instrument voices, record and playback performances, or enjoy built-in lesson songs, all controlled easily from the discreet cheek-block panel. The CX202’s convenient lesson function allows aspiring pianists to study classical piano using a collection of Czerny, Burgmüller, and Beyer etudes, or learn contemporary songs from the popular Alfred Basic Piano course books.
The left and right hand parts of each etude or song can be practised separately, with the built-in metronome and adjustable tempo controls helping to improve timing and rhythm.
* Notated scores and Alfred lesson books sold separately.
The CX202 is also compatible with Kawai’s PiaBookPlayer score viewer app, allowing the notated scores for classical lesson etudes and various other pieces to be displayed on a smartphone or tablet via the instrument’s wireless Bluetooth connectivity.
The PiaBookPlayer app includes notated scores for over 370 pieces, and also supports hands-free page turning by using the piano’s configurable pedals.
Supplementing its realistic acoustic piano voices, the CX202 also offers a selection of additional instrument sounds, including electric pianos, organs, harpsichord, vibraphone, and strings.
The Dual and Split playing modes also allow two different voices, such as an acoustic piano and a string ensemble or bass guitar, to be played together for a more complex sound that inspires even greater musical creativity.
The CX202’s Spatial Headphone Sound (SHS) technology enhances the depth and realism of the instrument’s sound when listening through headphones or earphones. The player can select one of three different acoustic presets that adjust the spatial positioning of the sound, while also helping to reduce auditory fatigue when using earphones or headphones for extended periods of time.
In addition, the CX202 also allows players to select a variety of headphone types (Open, Semi-open, Closed, In-Ear, Canal, etc.) for an optimised listening experience.
Reinforcing the CX202’s standing as one of the most realistic digital pianos in its price range is Kawai’s Grand Feel Pedal System.
This feature replicates the functionality, position, and individual weighting of the damper, soft, and sostenuto pedals of a Shigeru Kawai SK-EX Concert grand piano, with PianoRemote app parameters to adjust the half pedal point and soft pedal depth further enhancing the CX202’s acoustic piano-like authenticity.
The CX202’s simple yet attractive cabinet incorporates gently curved side arms and sturdy toe blocks for additional stability. The piano features a retractable key cover to protect they keyboard from dust, and a broad music rest that can be folded flat when not required. At just over 40 centimeters in depth, the CX202 is also a relatively compact instrument, making it well-suited to apartments and other narrow spaces.
The CX202 is available in three attractive cabinet finishes: Premium Rosewood, Premium Satin Black, and Premium Satin White, allowing musicians to coordinate their piano with a range of modern interiors.
