My Kawai digital/hybrid piano does not feature Bluetooth, can I still use apps such as a PianoRemote?

A

Many Kawai digital/hybrid pianos feature built-in Bluetooth MIDI connectivity, allowing the instrument to pair with a smart device wirelessly and use apps such as PianoRemote or PiaBookPlayer.

However, some Kawai instruments do not feature Bluetooth, or are shipped without Bluetooth functionality to regions where wirelessly certification has not been obtained from the local regulatory bodies.  In such cases, it is still possible to use apps by connecting the instrument via USB cable, or a third party Bluetooth MIDI adapter.

Option 1: USB Cable
Kawai instruments that feature a 'USB to Host' port can connect to smart devices via a standard USB 'A' to USB 'B' type cable.  On iOS devices it will also be necessary to use the Apple 'Lightning to USB Camera Adapter' accessory, while on Android devices it may be necessary to use a 'USB On-The-Go' adapter, depending on the device.  Please consult with the device's manufacturer for more information regarding 'USB On-The-Go' functionality.

Option 2: Bluetooth MIDI adapter
Kawai instruments that feature 'MIDI IN/OUT' terminals can also connect to smart devices wirelessly using a third party Bluetooth MIDI adapter, such as the QuiccoSound mi.1 II.  These adapters connect to the piano's MIDI IN/OUT terminals, creating a Bluetooth MIDI device that is able to communicate with the smart device, allowing apps to be used wirelessly.
