What is the optimum distance from the wall for a digital/hybrid piano equipped with a soundboard speaker?

Digital PianosHybrid PianosSound

A

First, it's important to stress that the environment in which a piano is placed (size/shape of the room, material and surface of walls/flooring/ceiling, the type and density of furniture, etc.) can have a dramatic impact on the instrument's tonal quality, character, and volume.

For these reasons, it is impossible to state an "optimum distance" from the wall for a digital/hybrid piano equipped with a soundboard speaker.  Therefore, it is recommended that the pianist position the instrument according to the environment, while also experimenting with distances and angles in order to achieve the "best" (to the pianist) sound.

However, as a general rule, customers may wish to consider the following recommendations:

1. Position the instrument with a gap of at least 3.5 cm from the wall, and gradually increase the distance until the optimum tonal character is found. For instruments that provide more than one 'Wall EQ' settings, experiment with the different 'Wall EQ' types.

2. If the instrument is positioned 30 cm or more from the wall, it may be preferable to set 'Wall EQ' to OFF.

3. In order to make further tonal adjustments and fine-tune the EQ, please experiment with the 'Tone Control' setting.
