FAQ

Is it necessary to protect my Kawai portable/stage piano using a dust cover?

Digital Pianos

A

Most Kawai digital pianos include a keyboard cover, which can be closed to protect the instrument and its keyboard when not in use. However, due to the design of some digital models, such as those from the ES portable and MP stage piano series, it is not possible to incorporate a keyboard cover.

Generally speaking, digital pianos should be relatively resistant to common household dust. Provided an instrument is well looked after, a model without a keyboard cover can continue to be enjoyed for many years.

However, the keyboard action of a digital piano is a complex mechanism comprising numerous moving parts.  Some of these parts may rely on lubrication in order to ensure smooth and responsive movement. Moreover, an uncovered instrument may also become more susceptible to scratches and other external blemishes.

Therefore, if a digital piano is placed in a dusty environment, or if customers wish to protect the exterior appearance of their instrument, it may be worthwhile covering the piano with a well-fitting dust cover, such as the Kawai DC88 or DC88-XL, or a similar cover produced by a third-party manufacturer.
