Can I use my Kawai digital/hybrid piano in another country or region?

This FAQ article is intended for customers who have purchased a Kawai digital/hybrid piano in one country/region, and wish to use the instrument in another country/region. This information may be useful for customers who wish to relocate to another country and bring their existing piano with them.

Please note that under most circumstances, Kawai instruments are only eligible for warranty support in the country that they are purchased from. If a Kawai instrument is purchased and shipped from another country, it may not be eligible for warranty support from your local Kawai subsidiary/distributor. For this reason, Kawai recommends that customers purchase from local/domestic dealers and retailers whenever possible. If purchasing from another country is the only option, Kawai recommends that customers consult with the retailer to confirm warranty and support terms.

Whether or not a Kawai digital/hybrid piano can be used in another country/region will depend on the following factors:

  1. The method used to power the instrument.
  2. The power standards of the country/region where the piano was originally purchased, and of the new country/region where it will be used.

Instruments powered by an AC power adapter
Kawai digital/hybrid pianos that are powered using an external AC power adapter are designed to function at different power standards. This means that an instrument purchased in a country/region with a 120V power standard can still be used in another country/region with a 230V power standard, either by using a simple travel plug adapter, or by exchanging the power cable for the correct local equivalent.

Instruments powered by mains AC power
Kawai digital/hybrid pianos that are powered using a power cable connected directly to the mains AC outlet are designed to function at specific power standards using an internal transformer. This means that an instrument purchased in a country/region with a 120V power standard cannot be used in another country/region with a 230V power standard, unless the piano is connected to an appropriate step-up/step-down voltage converter.
